Deborah Stewart
Deborah Stewart landed her first professional acting job while still in high school. Since then she’s appeared in independent
films, plays and television projects, but it wasn’t until she played the lead role as a lesbian character in the 2006 feature film, “Maple Palm”, that she decided it was important for her to come out to her audience as a lesbian herself.
In recent years, Deborah has starred in several other lesbian-themed projects including “Love Is Love” with Jane Lynch and the lead role in the independent web series, “The Seer”. Deborah’s breakout performance as Guin Marcus (described by Curve Magazine as “a badass investigator” and “a Christine Cagney-styled ex-cop whose visions are legit”) in “The Seer” has made her the face of the franchise, which includes the web series, an upcoming feature film, and the book, “InSight Of The Seer” (Bella Books, 2011).
Deborah trained in Drama at UC Davis’ acclaimed Department of Theatre before moving to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. Deborah credits her travels to over 23 different countries to study the human condition, along with her Masters Degree in Spiritual Psychology as helping her deepen the emotional nuances of the characters she plays on screen.
Deborah’s chameleon-like looks and versatile acting abilities allow her to play a wide range of characters – from volatile and unnerving performances (like those in “Baggage Claim,” (2006) and “Torn” (2007), which were compared to Glenn Close’s character in “Fatal Attraction”) as well as characters on the lighter side (like her role in “When The Time’s Right,” an LGBT film festival favorite, where she travels through the twilight zone as she questions her commitment to her new girlfriend).
Given her athletic build and glamorous tomboy looks, audiences are sometimes surprised when they find Deborah in a role such as the sultry vixen, “Alex” where she played opposite Michelle Wolff in “The 6 Month Rule”. Deborah’s unique, smoky voice also has also been featured in an impressive range of commercial projects, where she uses it to bring life to strong, female characters like Mattel’s® “Rockin’ Barbie”.
Deborah can currently be seen in “The 6 Month Rule” (2009) and “When The Time’s Right” (2009), which are both currently on the international film festival circuit. Deborah has also been cast as a lesbian, vampire-rocker-chick in a role specifically written for her and scheduled for release in (2012).
Deborah can also be seen in the episode, “I Kissed A Girl” of the new TNT drama, “Rizzoli and Isles” where she plays a lesbian in a scene with one of the show’s stars, Angie Harmon.
Deborah Stewart is definitely someone you’ll want to keep your eye on. To keep up with the latest from Deborah, visit www.deborahstewart.com, or find her on Facebook.
